Getting to Jericoacoara

Fortaleza is the closest major transportation hub to the Jericoacoara National Park (a distance of 300km) and the most common jumping off point when travelling to this area of Brazil. There are several international connections that link with Fortaleza and an extensive network of domestic travel connections within Brazil.

By Bus to Jijoca

There are regular buses that leave from Fortaleza to Jijoca at the main bus station; the main bus company is Redenção and one can find exact information about departures at their website (www.redencaoonline.com.br). After arriving in Jijoca (about 23km from Jericoacoara), it would be expected for passengers to change forms of transportation to a pickup-truck ("jardineira") for about R$40,00 to arrive in Jericoacoara. The trip should amount to about 6 to 7 hours in total.

Transfer Services

Transfer service from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara is provided by Totota pickup trucks and Land Rovers.. These 4WD options usually have the capacity for 4 passengers (Land Rover cap.  5 pass.) with luggage. The prices for this type of service will vary since the owners of the vehicles will set the prices, but it should range somewhere between R$ 450,00 to R$ 550,00 (one-way). The transfer service would be able to pick you up from any location in Fortaleza such as the airport or a hotel to begin the journey out to the national park.

By Car

It is not recommended to drive a rented vehicle from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara due to the fact that after passing Jijoca, the roads are not paved and can cause substantial damage to vehicles. The route to Jericoacoara is also not well marked.

For those who are traveling by car the most commonly used route is highway CE-085. It is not possible to continue passed Jijoca. At this point, one can leave the car in a parking lot and continue by pickup truck (about R$ 40,00) to Jericoacoara.

By Helicopter

The fastest and most comfortable (also most expensive) transport option to arrive in Jericoacoara is by taking a helicopter from Fortaleza to reach the destination in only 60 minutes. The times of flights can vary depending on the needs of the traveller, though there are not usually flights after 4:00 pm. The planes usually fit 4-6 passengers and the trip is quite scenic while soaring over the Ceará coastline. Contact us if you would like to find out more information about this transportation option.

Getting Around Jericoacoara

The national park is a network of interlacing sandy paths. The quaint destination also has no street signs and no street lights.  Most visitors explore the park by dune buggy or 4WD.
